The Windsorites pronounce it "Lewis" Avenue. I think the purpose for that is to demean the francophone original inhabitants. They butchered other, simple, french names such as Pierre (Peer-ee). I am not entirely sure this is the correct address. I would know if I saw the house.

We moved here from a converted chicken coop at the back of a house on Dougall Avenue about 1948.

I remember only one summer there – an incident where I was sitting in a small concrete pond my father had built in the back yard. Several girls were wandering in the back alley and made fun of my sitting naked in the pond. This sticks in my mind because one of the girls was Linda la Pensée who moved to a house at 1894 Larkin when we moved to 1894 Malta. Another incident I remember is stepping (by accident) into the toilet, falling, and hitting my head on the sink on the way down. I have a lump on my head to this day.

Other people I remember there were Mrs Brier (Breyer?), a neighbour I spent a lot of time with; Mary Bouwe, who babysat on numerous occasions; Denaud (?), the boy next door who taught me foul language.

Another memory of a time when I wouldn't go quietly to bed has my mother carrying me to the cupboards and the ice-box where I said good-night to each item of the contents. My mother was a saint.

I also remember much domestic violence.

We moved from here to Malta Road on the first day of January, 1950.
