The town of Chevalier burned and was then renamed Pointe-aux-Roches sometime in the late 19th century. The church is or was located on the southeast corner of the intersection of what are now designated County Roads 2 and 35. CR-35 was called the Comber Sideroad. Many of my ancestors are buried in the Cemetery on the West side of the Comber Sideroad partway between CR-2 and Lac Ste-Clair including my mother and all of her paternal line up to Pierre, son of Noël along with their wives. Many others in my tree are also interred there.
Uncle Achile Rondot was pastor of the church before I was born. Aunt Alice (Marion) lived her last years in a house on the East side of the same road, closer to the church. Uncle Armand Chauvin and aunt Leah had a Marina and Bait Shop (Bud’s Baits) on the lake at the end of this road. Aunt Loretta (Pawlowski) lived her last years on the lake West of the Comber Road a short distance. Her son Jerome lives in the lot to the East of there today.
Pépé Donus Chauvin owned a cottage on the lake just East of the juncture of CR-2 and the St. Clair Road. This was remembered fondly by my mother.
