Gilbert was born about 1080 in l'Aigle (now Laigle), Mortaigne-au-Perche, Orne, Basse-Normandie, France , the son of Richer I de l'Aigle and Judith d'Avranches.

He died about 1118. The place is not known.

His wife was Julienne du Perche, who he married in ABT 1092. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Richard II (c1100-1176).
