Richard was born about 1165, the son of Guillaume II du Hommet and Luce de Bruce. The place is not known.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Gillette de la Haye-du-Puits, who he married in BEF 1190. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Luce (c1190-?).

His second wife was Aliénor d'Héroudeville, who he married in 1196. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Mathilde (1202-1241).
