He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Adelheid von Zütphen, who he married in ABT 1030. The place has not been found. Their four known children were Dietrich II (c1033-1091), Gerhard I (c1035-1096), Herman III (c1040-1099) and Roger (c1043-?).
His second wife was Irmentrud von Hammerstein, who he married in ABT 1047. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Guta (c1047-c1125).
