Edward was born in 1016 in Wessex , the son of Edmund and Ealgyth Morcarson.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Agathe de Hongrie, who he married in 1043. The place has not been found. Their three known children were saint Marguerite (c1045-1093), Christine (c1050->1090) and Edgar Ætheling (c1051->1125).
