Pierre was born about 1165, the son of Pierre I Capet and Élisabeth de Courtenay. The place is not known.

He died after JUN 1219 in Epirus.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Agnès I de Nevers, who he married in 1184. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Mathilde (1188-1257).

His second wife was Yolande de Flandre, who he married on 1 JUL 1193 in Soissons, Aisne, Picardie, France .
