The nobles brought Shapur II to the throne. One of his brothers was blinded and another, Hormizd, was put in prison for 13 years by supporters of Shapur II. He finally managed to flee to Constantinople, with the help of his wife, the court of Emperor Constantine I the Great (305-337).
