Alfonso was born on 15 AUG 1171 in Zamora, Zamora prov., Castilla y León, España , the son of Fernando II de León and Urraca de Portugal.

He died on 24 SEP 1230 in Villanueva de Sarria.

He had six marriages/partners. His first wife was saint Thérèse de Portugal, who he married on 15 FEB 1191. The place has not been found. Their three known children were Fernando (1192-1214), Sancha (1193-1270) and Douce (1194->1243).
