Thibaut was born in 1105, the son of Sébrand I de Chabot and Agnès de la Roche-Servière. The place is not known.

His wife was Ǽnor de Châteaumur. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Thibaut III (1140->1213), Alix (1155-?), Eustachie (1160-1201) and Agnès (?-1203).
