Jean was born in 1642 in Le Havre, Seine-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France , the son of François-Phillippe de Lalonde dit l'Espérance and Jeanne Duval.

He died on 30 SEP 1687 in Baie d'Urfé, Montréal QC .

His wife was Marie Balan-Barbant, who he married on 14 NOV 1669 in Église Saint-Pierre-de-Sorel, Sorel-Tracy, Pierre-de Saurel, Montérégie QC . Their five known children were Jean-Baptiste (1675-1750), Jean (c1671-<1681), Marie-Madeleine (1672-1761), Jean (1679-1682) and Guillaume (1684-1752).

Our family originated in he ar. of Rouen, Normandie, FR. Jean was living in Baie D'Urfe when he was killed by the Iroquois.In August 1665, Jean arrived as a soldier in the Sorel company of the Carignan-Salières Regiment on the ship Aigle D'Or or St.Simeon. The Sorel company were among the soldiers who arrived in Quebec City in the third week in August. He had 3 contracts for marriage that were annulled before he signed the contract with Marie and married her.

Olivier, 1972, p. 182: b. 1640, d. info. originated from Havre-de-Grace.M. and had 4 children, 3 sons 1 dau. He was killed in an engagement with the Iroquois in Sep 1687
