[N2601] Fontenay, Picanier and Pontchartrain were all officers in the Indian Department (See Haldimand Papers circa 1778), all three participated in the expedition to recapture Fort Vincennes in late 1778, Fontenay took part in the capture of Daniel Boone earlier that year and is reported to have been on a scouting mission with up to 300 Shawnees in Sept of that same year. Pontchartrain lead the attack on Boonsboro in the late summer of 1778 after Daniel Boone escaped and fled home.

We the undersigned, the Vicar General, Monseigneur Brollind?, Bishop of Québec "illegible - authorized?" the dispensing of the reading of the three bans and Marie Thérèse Boyé, widow of Jean Baptiste Casse dit Saint Aubin, daughter of deceased? Ignace Boyé , master carpenter, living on lands on the northeast coast and of Dame Angélique Descardonnets, mother and father in a legitimate marriage and otherwise not having found any impediment etc and having received their mutual consents of marriage I gave the wedding benediction in the presence of Sieurs Beaubien Cuillerier, Anslide? Dufrense?, Fontenay Dequindre, Antoine Dequindre the brothers (of the groom), Ignace Boyé the father of the bride and several other relatives and friends etc. Signed: Fontenay Dequindre, C. Dubois. ? [N3295] François, Sieur de Picanier is recorded as the "fils majeur" the oldest son of Louis Cesaire but other records show he was the 5th son. Denissen records him as having been bpt. in Montréal 23-7-1747. In that case his mother would have been pregnant with him when she and her children left Michilimackinac in May 1747 to return to Montréal to avoid an Indian uprising. It is unlikely the Bishop was present but rather he had delegated the authority to give permission for the dispensing of the reading of the three bans. Fontenay Dequindre was Charles Stanislaus Dagneau de Quindre dit Fontenay and Antoine Dequindre (Sieur de Pontchartrain or Antoine-Cesaire?) were brothers of the groom. Beaubien Cuillerier would have been a relative. The grandmother of the groom was Marie-Catherine Trottier dit Beaubien who first married Jean Cuillerier and had several children who used the name Cuillerier dit Beaubien and later just Beaubien. She later married François Marie Picoté Sieur de Belestre and their daughter Marie-Anne was the grandmother of the groom. Denissen records J.B. Barthe as having married Geneve Cuillerier dit Beaubien who was the granddaughter of Marie-Catherine Trottier dit Beaubien. According to Denissen the mother of the bride was Angélique Pepin dit Descardonetts. Note: The Antoine Dequindre noted in the record did not sign - was he illiterate? It appears that Antoine (Pontchartrain) signed the record at the bpt of his son Louis 20-8-1786. Perhaps the Antoine present at the marriage of Picanier was Antoine Cesaire.
