I remember watching the building being constructed from my school. There had been a vacant field in the space between the mansions on Jarvis Street and the houses on Homewood Avenue. I remarked at the time at the haste with which the building complex went up.

I moved from the slums on St. Clarens to this condominium apartment just prior to having surgery on both feet. The building is just across Maitland Place from my school, Jarvis Collegiate Institute. This enabled me to survive the first winter by hobbling carefully over whatever slippery places there might have been between home and school using at first two canes and then one. My only thought was convenience.

I don't care much to live in downtown Toronto but the place is so close! I continued to rent until I inherited some money from my mother at which time I started looking for a home to purchase. Before I found suitable accomodations, apartments in the building, including mine, were put up for sale by CMHC (Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation - a Crown agency) at a reduced price. I was offered the choice to purchase as is or to move out. The price was right so I bought in 1994.

The apartment is spacious and reasonably quiet. The building is well kept and many improvements have been made since I moved in. The only light is from the East, at the bottom of a well formed by other buildings. It is quite unsuitable to gardening.

Once again, I was off like a bat-out-of-hell out of the Big Smoke. I am determined never to be there again. We'll see. The first stop on the epic trip West was at my sister’s in Chatham, where we had a retirement party (for me).

After a long hot Journey through the centre of the Evil Empire, I made it to my new home in White Rock.
