Johann was born on 28 AUG 1591 in Ohlau, the son of Joachim Friedrich von Brieg and Anna Maria von Anhalt.

He died on 25 DEC 1639 in Osterode.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Dorothea Sibylle von Brandenburg, who he married on 12 DEC 1610 in Berlin, Germany. Their twelve known children were Georg III (1611-1664), Joachim (1612-1613), Henryk (1614-1614), Ernest (1614-1614), Anna Elzbieta (1615-1616), Ludwig IV (1616-1663), Rudolf (1617-1633), Christian (1618-1672), Sibylla Malgorzata (1620-1657), Dorota (1622-1622), Agnieska (1622-1622) and Sofia Magdalena (1624-1660).

His second wife was Anna Hedwig von Sitzsch, who he married on 13 SEP 1626. The place has not been found. Their six known children were August (1627-1679), Dorota Sybilla (1628-1629), Ernest (1630-1631), Siegmund (1632-1664), Johanna Elisabeth (1634-1673) and Anna Christina (1636-1642).
