Claude was born on 21 JUL 1824 in Redbourne, Hertfordshire, the son of Thomas George Lyon-Bowes and Charlotte Grimstead.

He died on 16 FEB 1904. The place is not known.

His wife was Frances Dora Smith, who he married on 28 SEP 1853. The place has not been found. Their eleven known children were Claude George (1855-1944), Francis (1856-1948), Ernest (1858-1891), Herbert (1860-1897), Patrick (1863-1946), Constance (1865-1951), Kenneth (1867-1911), Mildred Marion (1868-1897), Maud Agness (1870-1941), Evelyn Mary (1872-1876) and Malcolm (1874-1957).
