Mary was born about 1407 in Edenhall Manor, Edenhall, Cumberland, England, the daughter of sir William IV de Stapleton and Margaret de Veteripont.

She died after 1470 in Durham, England.

She had two marriages/partners. Her first husband was William de Hilton. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Jane Anne (?-?), Eleanor (1450-1513), sir William VI (c1456-1506) and Elizabeth (<1451-?).

Her second husband was Richard Musgrave. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Eleanor (c1440-?).
