Johann was born on 17 OCT 1666 in Friedewald, the son of Johann I Georg von Sachsen-Eisenach and Johannetta von Sayn-Wittgenstein.

He died on 14 JAN 1729 in Eisenach.

He had four marriages/partners. His first wife was Amalia von Nassau-Dietz, who he married on 28 NOV 1690 in Oranjewoud. Their two known children were Wilhelm Heinrich (1691-1741) and Albertine Johannetta (1693-1700).

His second wife was Christine Juliane von Baden-Durlach, who he married on 27 FEB 1697 in Wolfenbüttel. Their seven known children were Johannette Antoinette Juliane (1698-1726), Katharine Christine (1699-1743), Anton Gustav (1700-1710), Charlotte Wilhelmine Juliane (1703-1774), Johannetta Wilhelmine Juliane (1704-1705), Karl Wilhelm (1706-1706) and Karl August (1707-1711).

His third wife was Magdalena Sibylla von Sachsen-Weißenfels, who he married on 28 JUL 1708 in Weißenfels. Their three known children were Johanna Magdalene Sophie (1710-1711), Christina Wilhelmina (1711-1740) and Johann Wilhelm (1713-1713).

His fourth wife was Marie Christine Felizitas von Leiningen-Dagsburg, who he married on 29 MAY 1727 in Schloss Philippsruhe. They had no known children.
