Philippe was born on 17 JAN 1342 in Pontoise, France, the son of Jean II de Valois and Bonne de Luxembourg.

He died on 27 APR 1404 in Hal, Belgique actuelle.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Marguerite III de Dampierre, who he married in JUN 1369 in Gand. Their nine known children were Jean I (1371-1419), Charles (1372-1373), Marguerite (1374-1441), Louis (1377-1378), Catherine (1378-1425), Bonne (1379-1399), Antoine (1384-1415), Marie (1386-1422) and Philippe (1389-1415).

His second partner was Marie d'Auberchicourt, but they were never married. Their only known child was Henri (1360-1409).
