Nicolas was born in 1373, the son of Phylip ap Elidyr Ddu and Gwladus verch Daffyd Fras. The place is not known.
His wife was Jonet verch Gruffudd. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Gruffudd ap Nicolas (c1390-1461).
