Maurice was born in APR 1271 in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, England, the son of Thomas de Berkeley and Joan de Ferrers.

He died on 31 MAY 1326 in Wallingford castle, Wallingsford, Oxfordshire, England .

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Eva la Zouche, who he married in 1289. The place has not been found. Their seven known children were Thomas (c1296-c1361), sir Maurice (1298-1347), John (c1299-?), Milicent (c1300->1322), Peter (c1301-?), Eudes (c1303-?) and Isabel (c1307-1362).

His second wife was Isabel de Clare. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. They had no known children.
