Roger was born in 1326/27 in Knockin, Oswestry, Shropshire, England, the son of sir Roger le Strange and Maud de Coucy.

He died in 1382 in Kenewylswode, Cymru.

His wife was Aline FitzAlan. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were John (c1352-1397), Lucy (c1365-c1398), Isabel (?->1366), Eubolo (?-1335) and Joan (c1356-<1399).
