Gerlach was born about 1286, the son of Adolf von Nassau and Imagina von Isenburg-Limburg. The place is not known.

He died on 01 JAN 1361 in kloster Klarenthal, Wiesbaden, Hessen-Nassau.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Agnes von Hessen, who he married in 1307. The place has not been found. Their six known children were Adolf I (c1307-1370), Johann I (c1309-1371), Maria (?-<1366), Elisabeth (c1315-c1370), Gerlach (1322-1371) and Adelheid (c1312-1344).

His second wife was Irmgard von Hohenlohe-Weikersheim, who he married on BEF 4 JAN 1337. The place has not been found. Their three known children were Ruprecht (?-1390), Kraft (?->1361) and Agnes (?-?).
