Katherine was born about 1462 in Mohun's Ottery, Devon, England, the daughter of sir Edmund Carew and Catherine Huddlerfield.

Her husband was sir Philip Champernowne, who she married in ABT 1513. The place has not been found. Their five known children were Jane (1514-1553), sir Arthur (c1524-1578), Katherine (?-c1549), Frances (?->1569) and John (c1518-c1541).
