William was born about 1398 in Tantallon Castle, North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland , the son of George Douglas and Mary Stewart.

He died in OCT 1437 in Mar Lodge, Braemar, Aberdeenshire, England.

His wife was Margaret Elizabeth Hay, who he married on 3 DEC 1414. The place has not been found. Their five known children were James (1426-1446), George (c1427-1462), Elene (?->1486), William (c1428-c1475) and Hugh (?-?).
