Thomas was born in 1387 in Y Barri, Glamorgan, Glamorganshire, Galles, the son of sir Thomas de la Barre and Elizabeth Croyser.
He died about 1420 in France.
His wife was Alice Talbot, who he married in 1412. The place has not been found. Their four known children were Elizabeth (c1414-1468), Joanna (c1373-c1421), John (c1410-c1454) and Alice (c1418-c1440).
