Otto was born about 1246 in Dassel, Hannover, the son of Ludwig II von Ravensberg and Adelheid von Dassel.

He died on 05 MAR 1306 in Ravensberg.

His wife was Hedwig zur Lippe, who he married on BEF 29 SEP 1258. The place has not been found. Their nine known children were Hedwig (<1266-?), Ludwig (<1269->1294), Adelheid (c1270->1338), Uda (<1276-1313), Otto IV (<1276-1328/29), Sophie (<1276->1328), Hermann (?->1297), Jutta (?-<1305) and Bernhard (?-1346).
