Ludwig was born about 1194 in Dassel, Hannover, the son of Hermann III (II) von Ravensberg and Jutta von Thüringen.

He died on 15 JAN 1249 in Ravensberg.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Gertrud zur Lippe. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Jutta (<1244->1282), Hedwig (?-1265), Sophie (?-?) and Gertrud (?-?).
