Friedrich was born on 03 FEB 1547, the son of Philipp Franz zu Salm-Dhaun and Maria Agyptiaca zu Oettingen-Oettingen. The place is not known.

He died on 26 OCT 1608 in Finstingen.

He had four marriages/partners. His first wife was Franziska zu Salm, who he married on 10 APR 1570. The place has not been found. Their six known children were Juliane Ursula (1572-1614), Franziska (c1575-1619), Philipp Otto (1576-1634), Elisabeth (c1577-1611), Johann Georg (1580-1650) and Anna (?-?).

His second wife was Anna Amalia von Nassau-Weilburg, who he married in AFT 1588. The place has not been found. They had no known children.

His third wife was Sibylle Juliane von Isenburg-Büdingen, who he married on 15 JUN 1598 in Birstein. Their five known children were Juliana Elisabeth (1602-1653), Johann August (?-1648), Ernst Ludwig (?-1628), Otto Ludwig (?-?) and Ludwig Heinrich (?-?).

His fourth wife was Anna Amalia von Erbach, who he married in AFT 1604. The place has not been found. Their two known children were Friedrich I Magnus (1606-1673) and Anna Maria (1606-1651).
