His wife was Anna af Danmark, who he married on 23 NOV 1589 in Oslo Cathedral, Oslo, Norway. Their seven known children were Henry Frederick (1594-1612), Elizabeth (1596-1662), Charles I (1600-1649), Robert (1602-1602), Margaret (1598-1600), Mary (1605-1607) and Sophia (1610-1606).
