Reinoud was born about 1255, the son of Otto II van Gelre and Philippe de Dammartin. The place is not known.

He died on 09 OCT 1326 in Montfoort (Utrecht).

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Ermgard von Limburg, who he married in 1276. The place has not been found. They had no known children.

His second wife was Marguerite de Dampierre, who he married on 3 JUL 1286 in Namur. Their five known children were Margarete (c1258-<1287), Reinoud I (II) (c1295-1343), Guido (?->1315), Isabelle (?-1354) and Philippa (?-1352).
