Hugh was born about 1333 in Kinderton cum Hulme, Northwich, Cheshire, England, the son of sir Hugh de Venables and Katherine de Haughton.

He died about 1383. The place is not known.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Margery de Cotton, who he married in ABT 1364. The place has not been found. Their six known children were Margery (1369-1459), Angela (c1370-1442), Richard (c1371-1403), Eva (?-?), William (?-1422) and Thomas (?->1379).

His second wife was Ellena de Brooke. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were William II (?-?) and Richard (?-?).
