Hugh was born in 1296 in Kinderton cum Hulme, Northwich, Cheshire, England, the son of sir Hugh de Venables and Agatha de Vernon.

He died in 1368. The place is not known.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Elizabeth de Mobberley. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were William (?-c1350) and John (c1337-1388).

His second wife was Katherine de Haughton. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their six known children were sir Hugh (c1333-c1383), sir Richard (1336-1403), Margaret (c1340->1417), Joan (c1345->1397), Roger (?-<1388) and Thomas (?->1368).
