Rachel was born in 1362 in Lochorwart castle, Goregridge, Midlothian, Scotland, the daughter of Thomas de la Haye and Jean Giffard.
Her husband was sir William de Borthwick. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their six known children were William (c1414-c1483), George (c1385-1447), Margaret (1388-?), Janet (1388-1464), Agnes (c1390-?) and John (c1393-?).
